Vertigo and coordination

Vertigo

Vertigo (dizziness) is associated with a tendency to faint, or to experience an unpleasant feeling of staggering or spinning. Vertigo is usually the result of an impaired or damaged sense of balance (equilibrium).

Coordination disorders

Coordination disorders are often the result of damaged nerve fibres in the cerebellum: the part of the brain situated above the brain-stem that controls balance and coordination of movement. Coordination disorders may lead to difficulty carrying out specific movements, such as raising a cup. In some cases, associated twitching can make movements such as this impossible

Some people may have difficulty sitting, standing or walking, a medical condition known as ataxia. Vocal disturbances are known as dysarthria, where speech is broken up, or slow, with hesitant enunciation, and sometimes tonally dead.
